The success story of the New York Yankees began in 1901 in Baltimore, still under the name “Baltimore Orioles”. Two years later, the club was bought by Frank Farrell and Bill Devery for the newly founded American League and moved to Manhattan. There, they played under the name “New York Highlanders”.
