The right size for your cap, beanie or hat mainly depends on your head circumference. You can measure it yourself in just a few seconds and then compare it with our size chart.

How to measure your head circumference

The easiest way to measure your head circumference is with a flexible tape measure. Make sure it follows the line where your cap or hat will sit.

1 Position the tape measure

Place the tape around the widest part of the back of your head and bring it across your forehead, roughly through the centre.

2 Measure comfortably

The tape should sit snugly against your head without digging in or being too loose.

3 Read your measurement

Your measurement in centimetres is your head circumference. Compare it with the size chart below.

No tape measure handy?
Use a piece of string or a narrow ribbon instead. Wrap it around your head in the same way, mark where the ends meet and measure the length with a ruler or folding rule.

Size & fit

One Size / Single size

One Size or single size means that a style is offered in just one size. However, not every one-size style fits the same range of head circumferences.

Depending on the style, stretchy materials or an adjustable closure allow the headwear to accommodate different head sizes. This includes many snapback, strapback and other adjustable caps.

Fitted Caps & Stretch-Fit Caps

Fitted caps have no adjustable closure. Traditional fitted styles come in fixed sizes, for example US sizes such as 7, 7 1/4 or 7 1/2. An accurately measured head circumference is especially important here.

Stretch-fit styles also have a closed back, but their stretchy materials allow them to fit within a certain size range. They are therefore often offered in sizes such as S/M or L/XL .

International sizes such as S, M, L and XL

Some brands use international size labels such as S, M, L or XL. You can also use your head circumference to find the right size.

What if you're between two sizes?
