Buy Flat Caps – Flat Caps from Kangol, Brixton & Stetson

Flat cap is the umbrella term for caps with a peak that don't follow the baseball cap construction. Behind it are several cuts with their own character: the flat cap, the voluminous baker boy cap and the usually structured fisherman's cap. At CapUniverse you can get them from Kangol, Brixton, Stetson, Hammaburg and Lipodo – in real sizes instead of one size.

Flat cap, baker boy cap or fisherman's cap – the cut makes the difference

The cut determines what name the cap carries. Three shapes dominate the range:

  • Flat cap, also known as driver's cap or ivy cap: You can spot it by its flat, close-fitting top. The short peak sits directly at the crown. The all-rounder of the category – and the cleanest fit for everyday wear.
  • Baker boy cap and baker boy: Multi-panel, round top with noticeably more volume. The more striking move, worn by both women and men in the game.
  • Fisherman's cap, sailor's cap and captain's cap: Usually a structured crown with its own peak instead of a sewn-on brim, often with a cord. The crown sits higher than on a flat cap, and the peak is longer – a maritime cut with a clear edge.

The difference to the baseball cap is clearest with the flat cap. The cap has a sewn panel crown and a long, pre-curved peak. The flat cap stays flat and keeps the peak short. The fisherman's cap and captain's cap sit somewhere in between.

The best-selling brands – from twelve months of orders

  1. Kangol – the clear number one in the category. The Original Flatcap 504 and the Tropic 507 Ventair have been firmly established in the hip-hop game since the 80s.
  2. Stetson – rank two, strong in cotton and linen. The Texas Cotton comes with UV protection.
  3. Brixton – rank three, clean cuts from California, plus fisherman's caps like the Zigzag.

Behind them follow Hammaburg, Chillouts, Lipodo and Lierys with fisherman's caps, wool caps and entry-level models. Among individual styles, Kangol's Das Original Flatcap 504 leads, with Stetson's Texas Cotton Flatcap close behind.

One more pattern shows up in the data. The summer models sell noticeably better than the winter variants. So flat caps aren't purely a cold-weather piece for our customers.

Flat caps for women and men

Flat caps aren't purely a men's thing, and women are strongly represented in the orders too. The difference lies in the cut, not the label. If you like it slim, go for the classic flat shape. If you want more volume – for longer hair or a softer look – go for a baker boy cap. Colour-wise, the selection ranges from black, charcoal and navy to beige, burgundy and olive.

Finding your size – there's no one size here

With flat caps, the size determines the fit, not a closure. The models range from S to XXL, and some brands give the size directly in centimetres. Measure your head circumference once with a tape measure, just above the ears – that value is your size. If you're between two sizes, go for the larger one.

Linen for summer, wool for winter

For spring and summer, models made from cotton and linen are available: light, breathable, some with UV protection. For autumn and winter, there are wool variants, many of them lined. You can find the English twin of this page under Flat Caps, and all other styles under Beanies.
